Hydrazino diphenyl ethers having the general formula I:- <CHEM> wherein: n is 0, 1,2 or 3; each group A represents a halogen atom or a cyano, nitro, alkyl or haloalkyl group; X represents a hydrogen atom or, when n is 0, alternatively represents a halogen atom; Y represents a halogen atom or a nitro or cyano group; R1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group, an alkyl group substituted by a halogen atom or a cyano or alkoxy group, or an optionally substituted aryl group; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, alkoxy, cycloalkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group, an alkyl group substituted by a halogen atom or a cyano, alkoxy, alkylamino, acylamino, alkoxycarbonyl or acyl group, an optionally substituted aryl or heterocyclic group, or an amino group optionally substituted by an alkyl, aryl, alkanoyl, aroyl or alkoxycarbonyl group or R1 and R2 together with the interjacent nitrogen atom jointly represent an azido group or a heterocyclic ring; Z represents a hydrogen atom or a cyano, alkyl, alkylamino, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, or acyl group, or Z, R1 and R2, together with the interjacent carbon and nitrogen atoms represent a heterocyclic ring; and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group.
