PURPOSE:To enable ink to be removed from a discharge surface in a noncontact manner by a method wherein when a recording head is introduced to an opposed position of an air nozzle with a carriage, an air pump is driven with a driving piece established to the carriage, and air is injected from the air nozzle toward an ink discharge part. CONSTITUTION:An air pump 38 is driven with a pump driving piece 2C of a carriage 2 everytime the carriage 2 passes in front of this air jet nozzle 35 before and after recovery time, and air is sent toward the nozzle 35 via an air discharge port 38C to be jetted. For a recording head 1, a discharge surface 1C of its discharge part 1A is formed in a depressed shape, and an ink absorbing material is provided below that. Then, everytime the recording head 1 is introduced to such a position with the carriage 2, air is jetted toward the depressed ink discharge surface 1C from a nozzle 35 fixed being oriented obliquely downward, and the air flows downward along the depressed part of the discharge surface 1C. At that time, dirt and ink adhering near an ink discharge port 1D are blown away. They fall on a downward ink absorbing material 39 and can be absorbed therein. |
