Emergency alarm system to protect an enclosed security zone which is attended by at least one person. A microphone disposed in the security zone is connected to a speech recognition system (3) to which a word memory (4) is assigned. An electronic evaluation system (7) linked to a central alarm station is connected downstream of the speech recognition system (3). Predefinable trigger words are stored in the word memory (4). The speech recognition system (3) continuously receives the spoken words and compares them with the stored trigger words. If a match is found, the evaluation logic is activated which, if an alarm criterion is present (emergency situation), transmits an alarm signal to the central alarm station (9). If the trigger words are formed from alarm signal words and from alarm all-clear words, the alarm logic (7) transmits an alarm signal to the central alarm station (9) only when at least two consecutively recognised alarm signal words have been detected. The evaluation logic (7) can be reset (de-activated) if the speech recognition system (3) detects alarm all-clear words.
