The paternoster lift is equipped with chains (8, 9 and 15, 16) which are guided around chain wheels (10 to 14 and 17 to 19). Ascending parts of the chains (8, 9 and 15, 16) run at a distance from one another. Beams, which are connected to one another by joints, form platforms which are fastened via rods to the chains (8, 9 and 15, 16). The fastening is executed in such a manner that the platforms are orientated horizontally during their ascent. The ascending parts of the chains (8, 9 and 15, 16) run at an acute angle to the horizontal, so that the platforms can be loaded with items whose height exceeds the free distance between two successive platforms. <IMAGE>
