The invention relates to a compensation block which is intended for fixing glass panes in window or door frames, whose strip-like body consists of a plastic-containing material and whose surface, to be directed towards the glass pane, is provided with grooves running transversely to its longitudinal direction. In order that the compensation block is provided with those properties of beech-wood compensation blocks which are favourable for fixing glass panes, without swelling, and can be produced inexpensively, it is separated off from an extruded section, the material of which contains at least 20% of, in particular, natural fibre materials, preferably wood, and the grooves running in the extruding direction are at least 0.5 mm in depth and 1 to 2 mm in width and have a mutual spacing which corresponds approximately to their width.
