The invention relates to a device for determining register in sheets and webs printed on multicolour printing machines. The aim of the invention is efficient determination of the register over a multiplicity of random measuring points by means of random specimen sheet sequences. Starting from the object of providing a device for determining register during running-on, which device permits efficient recording, independent of visual evaluation, of mark spacings in measuring zones within measuring points, distributed randomly over the sheet, of random sheet sequences, the receiver comprises a television camera with a CCD sensor and flash device, downstream of which there is a measurement evaluation unit for taking into account the spectral sensitivity of the printing inks.
