A parallel compass has divided legs, partially U-shaped in cross-section, whose upper leg sections are articulated on the lower leg sections by guide rods projecting partially into the grooves to form a parallelogram linkage, the leg sections and guide rods being of overall straight design, and the joint sections dividing the legs being so positioned that the inner edges of the upper leg sections are extended downwards and the guide rods extend, in a concealed manner, in the grooves of the leg sections, which are open towards the outside.
