In a device for signalling the onset of parturition in domestic cattle which comprises a probe to be inserted in the birth canal of the animal 10 and responding to changes in temperature and/or pressure, and an emitter 15 to be attached to the animal for the wireless signal transmission, as well as a receiver 13 for triggering an alarm on receiving the signals emitted by the emitter 15, the functional reliability is considerably enhanced and the energy to be radiated into the environment by the emitter is considerably reduced in that a converter 12 is provided in the transmission path between the emitter 15 and the receiver 13 and can be connected in the vicinity of the animal 10 to an existing electrical main circuit 23 in order to distribute converted signals to this electrical main circuit 23 on receiving signals from the emitter 15, which converted signals are then picked up by the receiver 13 likewise connected to this main circuit 23 and are evaluated for triggering an alarm.
