Rolls and rollers used at high temperatures are subject to high thermal and mechanical stresses. The life of these rolls and rollers is to a great extent dependent on the choice of high-temperature steels. Nevertheless, their endurance remains unsatisfactory because the contact of the slab with the roll shell leads to thermal stress cracks, i.e. in the end fibre, which is subject to the highest mechanical loading. Since the entire roll is subjected to alternating bending stresses, the cracks deepen and the strength of the roll is considerably reduced. Patent DE 2902825 proposes to place the elements which give the roll its strength under the surface of the roll and to prestress the clamping bolts required by this configuration relative to the roll shell so as to give a flexurally stiff roll body. Under operating conditions, the roll shell expands due to the action of heat and the prestressed clamping bolts are strained. The resulting forces considerably exceed those due to normal mechanical loading. The greatest demands are made on the anchorings of the clamping bolts. The anchorings described in Patent DE 2902825 do not meet these demands. The present invention presents various methods and these guarantee, in particular, high endurance of the clamping bolts but also permit economical production of the anchoring, e.g. reuse ...
