In a foldable chair, having a seat supported by front and rear foot supports and having a foldable backrest, the seat (1) is connected to the front and the rear foot supports (4, 5) by joints for space-saving folding, the rear foot supports (5) are constructed to extend to above the seat (1) and the backrest (7) is provided on the rear foot supports (5) with spacing above the seat joints so as to be foldable and longitudinally movable and is held firmly but releasably in various inclinations relative to the seat (1) by means of catch members (8) which are firmly connected to the backrest (7) on pins (9) arranged on the rear foot supports (5) and serving as stops for the seat (1), while the ends of the front and rear foot supports (4, 5) facing away from the seat (1) are connected to one another firmly but releasably by a longitudinally displaceable strut (26) connected to the rear foot supports (5) so as to be foldable. <IMAGE>
