Biodegradable composite material comprising a fibre felt of natural cellulosic fibres, regenerated fibres or semi-synthetic fibres bonded together and fixed by means of a chitosan salt. USE/ADVANTAGE - The materials are relatively cheap to make, can be shaped, sewn, etc, have high strength and adequate wet strength, and are degraded by microorganisms in the soil in 1-3 months without pollution of the ground. The materials are useful for prodn of disposable household materials. The fibre content of the fibre felt is eg of cotton, flax, viscose rayon, cuprammonium rayon, modified cross section rayon or porous rayon. The material may contain a water repellency modifier .
