PROCESS FOR PREPARING ALKENYLSUCCINIC ANHYDRIDES

High quality alkenyl succinic anhydride was prepd. by heat treatment of C2-90 olefin or maleic acid in the presence of solid acid/base catalyst. Thus, 538g Dialene AD-16 and 1.7g catalyst (Si/Ti=1/1) was added to the 1liter-capacity reactor. 196g maleic acid was stirred under nitrogen gas and maintained in the reactor at 170≦̸C for 30 min. Addition reaction was carried out at 200≦̸C for 6h. The final product was obtained at 200≦̸C and 15 mmHg (viscosity at 25≦̸C=102cP).
