<p>Nitroaryl glycosides of formula (I) are new: (where n = 2-4; R is phenyl, 1-naphthyl or 2-naphtyl substd. by X and Y, where X and Y are H, NO2, halogen, 1-4C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, or 2-7C alkoxycarbonyl, provided that at least one is NO2). Cpds. (I) are useful as reagents for the determn. of alpha-amylase in serum. Contact with alpha-amylase followed by treatment with maltase and alkali giveas a nitrophenolate ion which can be detected spectrophotometrically without interference from glucose; this technique is simpler than that described in US3879263. In an example, a mixt. of alpha-and beta-(4-nitrophenyl) maltotetraoside is prepd. from the corresp. tridecaacetyl deriv.</p> |
