<p>An attachment, e.g, for providing a tubular post P with a foot plate 14, includes a radially expandable insert 10 for fixing within the post P. The insert 10 may have a central bush 22 from which a skirt 18 extends downwardly and outwardly. A bolt 16 engages in the bush 22; turning the bolt 16 causes the insert 10 to be pulled towards the foot plate 14 so that the skirt 18 tends to flatten and expand radially, constrained by contact with the foot plate 14 or with an interposed spacer 12. In another embodiment, the bush 22 is omitted and the central hole in the insert 10 is threaded to receive the bolt 16. The head of the bolt 16 is accommodated in a recess in the plate 14, the upper surface of the recess projecting towards the insert 10 to assist radial expansion. <IMAGE></p> |
