CHARACTER REDUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To maintain a black/white dot ratio by selecting a pair of lines out of a group of unidirectional lines of a matrix-shaped character pattern and extracting a single-side line where the line to be deleted is decided previously for each pair of lines. CONSTITUTION:A character pattern produced by a standard character pattern generating circuit 1 is equal to a (24X24)-dot matrix and is reduced down to a 16-dot character only in the lateral direction. In such a case, a line separating circuit 2 separates repetitively the pattern into a non-deletion line and a pair of deletion lines from the left side. Then a group of non-deletion lines are stored in a non-deletion line group storage circuit 17. While a group of pairs of deletion lines are stored in a storage circuit 3 for group of pairs of deletion lines. The contents of the circuit 3 are supplied to a separating circuit 5 via a sequential extracting circuit 4 for pairs of deletion lines in the form of each pair of deletion lines. While the deletion lines are stored in a deletion line storing circuit 8 and the lines remaining in a pair of deletion lines are stored in a storing circuit 6 for lines remaining in a pair of deletion lines respectively. A line assembling circuit 16 assembles lines based on the picture element dots and then the remaining lines within a pair of deletion lines equivalent to a line.
