PURPOSE:To obtain a transfer recording image having good printing quality even to a recording medium poor in surface smoothness, by prescribing the m.p. of a thermal transfer ink layer and using a heat resistant film as a support. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer material 1 is formed by usually forming a thermal transfer ink layer 3 to a sheet like support comprising a heat resistant film. The ink layer is of one layer but a maltilayed structure may be adopted. The thermal transfer ink layer to be used is constituted by using a heat-meltable binder and a coloring material. The heat-meltable binder comprises a single substance or a plurality of substances and mixed so as to adjust the m.p. thereof to 70-150 deg.C and, if necessary, a plasticizer is added to said binder. As the coloring material, various dyes and pigments used in printing and recording fields are used. In performing transfer by setting heating energy applied to the support to 30mJ/nm<2> or more, a heat resistant film with heat resistant temp. of 160 deg.C or more is used as the support. |
