PURPOSE:To reduce nitrogen oxide in waste gas efficiently by using a specified hydrocarbon and, as a contact reduction catalyst, a metal oxide selected from a group of specified metal oxides and an oxide of metals selected from a group of specified metals. CONSTITUTION:Nitrogen oxide is efficiently reduced by hydrocarbon in the presence of a catalsyt which selectively reduces nitrogen oxide. Lower alkynes such as acetylene, methylacetylene, and 1-butyne, lower alkenes such as ethylene, propylene, isobutylene, 1-butene, and 2-butene, and lower dienes such as butadiene, and isoprene are preferable as the hydrocarbon. A contact reduction catalyst consists of TiO2 (a), at least one metal oxide (b) selected form a group of Al2rt. angle3, SiO2, and ZrO2. and an oxide (c) of at least one metal selected from a group of V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Nb, Mo, and W. Nitrogen oxide in waste gas is contact-reduced efficiently by these hydrocarbon and contact reduction catalyst. |
