PURPOSE:To provide a cooling and heating method which does not allow bubbles to remain in an ink channel when ink coagulates or melts by providing temperature gradient along an ink channel from an ink tank to a nozzle in a hot melt type ink jet recorder. CONSTITUTION:After the completion of printing, the heating of a heating element for heat retention 16 stops and the whole ink channel begins to cool with natural cooling. The thickness of material of a heat retaining element 15 is formed so as to cake its heating capacity increase gradually toward a tank, so that a temperature gradient generates in the ink channel. A coagulated area grows sequentially from a nozzle 6 in such a manner that a single boundary between the solid phase and liquid phase of the ink gradually moves toward the ink tank 5. When the ink clots, its volume shrinks, but the ink supply in liquid phase continues from the ink tank 5, eliminating the reduction of pressure in the uncoagulated liquid-phase. This does not allow the air solved in the ink in the channel to deposit into bubbles. |
