PURPOSE:To obtain a zinc alkaline battery whose hydrogen gas evolution is reduced and discharge performance is improved by adding a specified amount of thallium and gallium, and at least one element of calcium, strontium, and magnesium to negative active material comprising zinc. CONSTITUTION:A zinc alloy containing 0.01-0.5wt% thalium, 0.01-0.5wt% gallium, and the total amount of 0.005-0.5wt% at least one element selected from calcium, strontium, and magnesium is used as negative active material. If the content of each specified element is less than the lower limit, the expected effect cannot be obtained, and if the content exceeds the upper limit, self discharge of zinc is increased, gas evolution is not retarded, and discharge performance is not improved. The total content of 0.005-0.2wt% at least one element selected form calcium, strontium, and magnesium is preferable, and if the content exceeds 0.2wt%, the effect is reduced. |
