A method for making, in particular for mass production, sheet-like silicon material, in particular of relatively low thickness, in particular for photovoltaic energy converters, in which high-purity silicon is melted under a protective gas atmosphere and forced under increased pressure through a slit-type opening (13), the strip-like material (15) emerging from the slit-type opening (13) is cooled, and sheet-like sections of desired length are cut from the cooled strip-like material (15), the cooling being carried out at a cooling rate of approximately 10<4> to 10<9> K/sec, and also an apparatus for carrying out the method in which the cooling device comprises cooling rollers (7, 7) which are rotatable in a manner known per se about their respective longitudinal axes and are arranged at a mutual distance to form a slit and of which at least one cooling roller (7) is driven, the cooling rollers (7, 7) consisting, at least on the outside, of a material of high thermal conductivity. <IMAGE> |
