PURPOSE:To perform detection of an estimated error of a rotary press machine precisely by surely extracting a detecting signal of a register mark, by generating a gate pulse which is in a pulse width containing a detecting signal of the register mark according to a result which has detected the lapse of time corresponding to an interval up to a shorter one than a regular interval between a reference mark and the register mark from the forward edge of the reference mark on the basis of detecting signal of the reference mark. CONSTITUTION:As each of marks is so constituted as to be detected as an electric signal by a photoelectric detector 5 fixed on a scanning line 4 by opposing to each of the marks and detection is performed on the scanning line 4, a pulselike signal is obtained according to transfer of long-sized paper 1.
