PURPOSE:To acquire a synchronesh for converting from forward to backward running automatically, by decreasing the speed through an engine brake up to a preset value before converting an automatic transmission gear from the forward to the backward running in a switchback running. CONSTITUTION:An automatic transmission 3 connected to the engine 1 of a fork lift through a clutch 2 is shifted to the low and the high stages by a shift converting actuator 7, and to the forward, backward, and the neutral stages through a forward/backward shift converting actuator 8. In this case, when the shift lever is converted to the neutral state, and to the other direction point (converting position) before the lever is shifted to the neutral, the clutch 2 is connected to exercise an engine brake to reduce the speed. And when the running speed is reduced to a preset speed, the clutch 2 is disconnected, and the automatic transmission 3 is controlled to converted from the gearing of the then running direction to the opposite gearing. |
