A helicopter 1 according to the invention has a supporting structure suspended from the main transmission box and carrying four automatic load-hooking members located outside the cockpit and to which is hooked a detachable unit 2 comprising two fluid tanks 2d, 2g connected together by a cradle 5 whose shape is complementary to the shape of the underside of the cockpit and of gas bottles which communicate with the said tanks via shutoff members controlled from the cabin. The device also comprises a telescopic tube 3 ending in a water cannon 4 which at rest is housed underneath the cockpit. One application is forest firefighting. <IMAGE>
