A winch comprises a reversible electric drive motor 14 and a pulley 17 arranged in permanent drive connection with the latter. With a view to enabling advantageous properties of the winch, a pressure element 22 interacting with the pulley rim 17' of the pulley 17 is present, which pressure element is mounted on a movable holder 24 by means of which it can be moved relative to the pulley rim 17' of the pulley 17 between an active position in which it is set up to bear under pressure against the outer side, facing away from the pulley rim 17' of the pulley 17, of a belt 18 running in a curve around the pulley, so as to hold the said belt in forcible pressurized bearing contact against the pulley rim 17' of the pulley 17, and an inactive position in which it leaves the belt 18 unaffected. The pressure element 22 is automatically switchable between the said two positions in dependence upon the direction of rotation of the pulley 17. <IMAGE>
