PURPOSE:To perform the electrolysis of a solution or the purification/separation of gas with good efficiency, by partitioning a solution chamber and a gas chamber by a gas permeable membrane equipped with a porous gas permeable layer and the reaction layer supporting a catalyst formed to the surface of said gas permeable layer and using the gas permeable layer as an electrode. CONSTITUTION:A metal electrode 2 is mounted to one side wall 1c of a solution chamber 1 storing an electrolyte and a gas chamber 4 is formed to the other side wall 1d of said solution chamber 1 through a partition wall 3 having a gas permeable membrane 5 formed thereto. The gas permeable membrane 5 is formed of a porous gas permeable layer 5a having pores with a caliber of 800Angstrom or less formed by bonding conductive fine particles such as carbon fine particles by a binder and the reaction layer 5b, which is formed by supporting a catalyst such as Ni by a carrier, formed to the surface of the gas permeable layer 5a. When this gas separation module is incorporated to perform the electrolysis of water, an electrolyte is recirculated to the solution chamber 1 and a current is supplied to the electrode 2 and the gas permeable membrane 5. The gas generated from the reaction layer 5b transmits through the gas permeable layer 5a to be discharged to the gas chamber 4 and the gas generated at the electrode 2 flows out from an opening 1b together with the electrolyte. |
