A description is given of a reactive torque sensor in the form of a tube which is subjected to torsion and is bounded by two flanges, having a mechanoelectrical transducer system mounted on the tube and consisting of strain gauges (9, 10; 11, 12) which are mounted symmetrically on the torsion tube (2) and are connected in a Wheatstone bridge circuit. In order to construct such a reactive torsion sensor in a compact fashion with few individual parts, to produce it simply and to be able to adjust it at any time to any desired measuring range, it is provided that a circumferential recess (35) is constructed on the inside of the torsion tube (2) in the region of the active part (18, 19) of the lattice of the strain gauges (9, 10; 11, 12). <IMAGE>
