The invention relates to an arrangement for current limiting in the case of AC machines, especially three-phase machines, having phase-gating control by semi-conductors in order to achieve smooth starting by means of a device for stopping the continuous reduction in the triggering angle when a predetermined current limiting value occurs. In order to achieve smooth rundown, this arrangement is improved in that an appliance is provided for switching over the device from the continuous reduction in the triggering angle to a continuous increase in said triggering angle. In consequence, a smooth rundown of the machine can be achieved even for a series of applications in the case of drives having a low flywheel mass.
