The advantages of the piston pump without inlet and outlet valves compared to the conventional one- or two-valve pumps are obvious and include the following points: 1. Because the mechanical conventional valves are dispensed with, simple and extremely small pump bodies can be manufactured. 2. The uncomplicated casing bodies have a beneficial effect on the cost of manufacturing the tools required for production. 3. Because the mechanical valves are no longer present, the susceptibility to faults is considerably reduced, which in turn results in a reduced potential maintenance effort. 4. Because of the possibility of a presettable water-stop function without additional booster valves, there is a further not inconsiderable cost reduction in manufacture, especially for long-stroke, high-capacity pumps. 5. Owing to this additional possible water-stop functionality, the appliances can be started when water discharge has been stopped, without overloading the motor. As a result, the water discharge can be started from the nozzle holder by pressing a button or pushing a lever, and the intensity of the water jet can be regulated or controlled. This possibility obviates a regulating device at the appliance itself, and thus a sometimes complex mechanism, which contributes to a further cost reduction in manufacture. t
