A device for producing a gap which is free of interlocking members in a continuous slide fastener, consisting of two stringer tapes and continuous, coupled rows of interlocking members made of plastic monofilament and attached on said stringer tapes by attachment thread loops (in particular rows of interlocking members which are completely covered on one side by stringer tape threads lying in the plane of the stringer tape and on the other side by tying warp threads passing out of the plane of the stringer tape as attachment thread loops). The device has a lower tool, an upper tool, a lower tool die which is guided movably up and down relative to the lower tool in a guiding gap of the lower tool, and a clearing die guided movably up and down in the upper tool. The lower tool is provided with roof-shaped blade edges in the region of the interlocking members to be removed. The slide fastener stringer tapes can be clamped in the region of the gap to be produced between the upper tool and the lower tool with a space for the interlocking members, and the plastic monofilament parts of the interlocking members to be removed when creating the gap can be pressed onto the blade edges by the clearing die next to the attachment thread loops, and the interlocking members can be cut open at the blade edges.
