PURPOSE:To execute precisely and rapidly the focusing of a lens even if an object including much DC components is used by moving an optical system for projecting the image of the object to an image pickup means over a prescribed range in response to a photographing command signal. CONSTITUTION:A lens group 1 is moved in an infinite far direction and a horizontal focusing position PH and a vertical focusing position PH are detected by a horizontal focusing position detecting circuit PV and a vertical focusing position detecting circuit 15 respectively. Said operation is repeated until the lens group 1 reaches the infinite far position, and at the completion of movement, the maximum point of detecting levels to be decided as a focusing point is detected by peak point detecting circuits 27, 37 to decide whether both the PH and PV are obtained or not. When both the PH and PV are obtained, the focusing position P can be determined by properly weighting the values of the PH and PV while considering the priority or the like of the horizontal and vertical directions and then synthesizing both the values. |
