Embossed thermoplastic film is produced by passing fused film through two embossing rollers immersed in liq. coolant, and impressing the pattern before the film solidifies through its whole thickness. Pref. the embossing rollers make contact with the thermoplastic film at a level corresponding to the free surface of the coolant. The rollers pref. consist of two runners or intermeshing rolls. This simple process embosses in one operation, it can process thick crystalline film and also produce shockabsorbing film. suitable polymers are polyesters, polyolefins and polyvinylhalogenides. The film is embossed before it is cool through its whole thickness so that patterns are easily produced.
