In the known procedures for applying a polymerizable polyfunctional acrylate primer composition to assist adhesion of a siloxane of silica coating, the improvement comprising employing as primer composition (a) a monomer containing at least two acryl groups, (b) a compound of formula (HS- R)nSiX4-n wherein X is alkoxy or ester and n is 1, 2 or 3, (c) an initiator, particularly a photo- initiator. (a) is typically a urethane acrylate/ diethylene glycol diacrylate. (b) is linked principally at chain-ends. |
