PURPOSE:To prevent decrease of battery capacity, by placing an cathode conductive member, which is impregnated with cathode active substance and has vertical grooves on its inner surface for cutting single fibers, between a tube of sodium ion conductive solid electrolyte and a battery jar. CONSTITUTION:A cathode conductive member 9 composed of graphite felt is impregnated with sulfur acting cathode as active substance 8, and vertical grooves A are provided on the inner surface to cut the single fibers of the conductive memory 9, thereby forming a cathode. And the cathode and an anode which is placed in tube 1 of solid electrolyte such as sodium ion conductive beta-alumina and composed of metal fiber 5 filled with sodium acting as anode active substance 6 are combined together to form a sodium-sulfur battery. This results in sulfur deposition in the grooves A during the beginning period of charging and sulfur is made to hardly cover the surface of the solid electrolyte tube 1. Therefore the battery performance can be enhanced without capacity reduction even after charging and discharging cycles. |
