The present invention provides an inexpensive method for manufacturing synthetic resin can bodies, the method comprising the steps of molding a preform with a bottom formed of thermoplastic synthetic resin such as polyethyleneterephthalate; stretch blow molding a bottlelike intermediate member in which an upper end of a body portion is outwardly extended from the preform; and cutting the intermediate member at the extended portion to form a can body in which a body portion having at least a laterally directed open edge by a lower side of the extended portion and a bottom are integrally formed.
