PURPOSE:To obtain a required converting candidate with lesser number of times by combining cursor position information to the next candidate key to output converting candidates. CONSTITUTION:A converting control section 2 references a Kana (Japanese syllabary) string from an input section 1 to decide word information of a word dictionary storage section 3 and outputs a grammatically correct information to a conversion candidate storage section 4 as a conversion candidate. A cursor position decision section 51 of the output control section 5 decides the position of the cursor when the next candidate key is depressed and transmits it to a con version candidate retrieval section 52 to retrieve the next conversion candidate. The conversion candidate retrieval section 52 uses the given cursor position information to retrieve the conversion candidate having the same preceding character and when it exists, a pointer set section 53 sets a pointer to the conversion candidate.
