The hydraulically-driven wood-splitting machine has an iron base with a knife in a holder at one end. Movable between points 520 and 1700mm. from the knife is a thrust plate working in a guide and driven be a double-acting ram generating a maximum thrust of 20 tons and taking roughly 6 seconds to move for 1m. - The piston movement of the ram is controlled by two valves, requiring two hands to operate them simultaneously, in the interests of safety. The piston is supplied by a hydraulic pump immersed in the oil storage tank and driven by a 75 KW electric motor.
