In a milking implement, an envelope (11) surrounding the animals udder is attached, together with the teat cups (14), to the udder for a period longer than the milking operation. The envelope is transparent and the implement subsequently milks, cleans and supplies air to the udder, the envelope also having a flexible upper rim and being attached to the body of the animal by a carrying member (13). The teat cups have sensors to indicate proper attachment and a vacuum is introduced into an incorrectly attached cup. The floor of the milking parlour includes one or more conveyors (25) on which the animals (10) occupy a place.
