Terphenyl derivs. (I)[R=CF3, Ph., I, Br, Cl, F or Ph. substd. by CF3!. Thus, 47.5g II [R=I was reacted with 135.4g bis(trifluoromethyl)Hg and 101.4g powd. Cu in 1100ml N-methyl-2- pyrrolidinone at 150≰C overnight. The reaction mixt. was cooled and extracted with 3 liter diethylether. The organic layer was washed with H2O, dried on Na2SO4, filtered, and vacuum-dried. The residues were purified by common chromatography and crystallized to give 27.15g I (R=CF3). ED50 for a cramp in mouse was 5.6mg/kg after 4hr of application. Compd. I are used in the treatment of pain, inflammation, fever, cerebral thrombosis, and arthritis in mammals.
