PURPOSE:To prevent an ink ribbon from making contact with a leading end part of a printing paper to stain the paper, by locating the leading end edge of the printing paper above the ink ribbon when fitting the paper to a platen and opposing a printing head and the ink ribbon to the paper. CONSTITUTION:A paper guide piece 4a is bent to the carriage side 6 against its own elasticity by the stiffness of a postal card 3a, and the other end of the postal card 3a is disposed above the ink ribbon 18 in the state of being separate from the platen 2. A CPU 20 drives a stepping motor 25 for driving the carriage, whereby the carriage 6 is moved to return to a home position. Concurrently with this, a slant outer edge of a paper guide 15 is engaged to the postal card 3a, whereby the card 3a is led into a paper guide passage between the guide 15 and the platen 2 while being bent to the platen side. In this case, because the postal card 3a is bent and is opposed to the ink ribbon 18 at a part of the cylindrical outer peripher surface, there is not possibility that a part of the ink ribbon 18 makes contact with the postal card 3a. |
