<p>A process for varnishing in various stages in order to confer on articles manufactured from wood, particularly furniture, an appearance similar to that of materials which are more highly valued, such as ivory, pietra dura (hard stones), etc. It is achieved by applying a layer of suitably coloured potassium nitrate varnish to a first base layer (stratum) of polyester resin. Next, self- adhesive paper bearing an outline of the desired drawing. Next, by displacing the paper bearing the outline in correspondence with the area it is desired to decorate, the spaces thus freed will be filled with a decoration based on coloured earths, after which the next process is displacing all the paper over the remaining areas, thus obtaining the design in relief. The final stage is to apply, to the manufactured article's surface thus obtained, a finishing stratum or layer in transparent polyester resin until a perfectly smooth surface is obtained. Final dressing (rendering), using traditional methods, gives the article the desired appearance.</p> |
