A nucleoside derivative represented by general formula (I) and useful as an antiviral and a malignant tumor remedy, wherein R represents adenin-9-ylmethyl, guanine-9-ylmethyl, hypoxanthin-9-ylmethyl, thymin-1-ylmethyl, uracil-1-ylmethyl or cytosin-1-ylmethyl; and X and Y represent each independently hydrogen or hydroxy, provided the case where X is hydrogen and Y is hydroxy is excepted.
