PURPOSE:To extend the life of a casting mold by providing metallic plating layers respectively having heat conductivity and wear resistance to the upper and lower parts of the inside wall surface of the casting mold and tightly joining the boundary part thereof via tapered joint surfaces. CONSTITUTION:The inside wall surface 5 of a casting mold body 1 is shaped by machining and polishing and is preliminarily degreased. First, the lower part of the inside wall is coated with a tape and the upper part of the inside wall surface is subjected to an activation treatment. The metallic plating layer 4A which is of the same kind as the body 1 and has the good heat conductivity is formed on the treated surface. The bottom end of the plating layer 4A is machined to form a tapered surface 10 inclining downward from the inside circumferential surface 6 of the plating toward the outside circumferential surface 9. The joint surface 10 and the lower part of the wall surface are then activated and the plating layer 4B of the metal having the excellent wear resistance is formed thereon. The heat crack of the inside wall surface 5 of the casting mold is prevented and the wear resistance thereof is improved by the above-mentioned method, by which the life of the casting mold is extended. |
