PURPOSE:To apply efficient application of a vertical magnetic field by arranging a magnetic field applying device to a position opposite to an optical head while clipping an photomagnetic recording medium and providing an auxiliary magnetic pole having a magnetization easy axis orthogonal to the magnetization easy axis of the recording medium near the optical head. CONSTITUTION:The auxiliary magnetic pole 8 is arranged between an objective lens 3 and a recording medium 1 and a hard magnetic member having the magnetic anisotropy orthogonal to the magnetization easy axis of the recording medium 1 is used. In flowing a current (i) to an exciting coil 6, a magnetic flux theta is generated, induced in an auxiliary magnetic pole piece 9 arranged between the recording medium 1 and the objective lens 3 from a center yoke 5, given in the magnetization easy axis direction of the auxiliary magnetic pole piece, led to the center yoke 5 to form a closed magnetic circuit 4. Thus, the vertical magnetic field is applied efficiently to the recording medium 1 by the center yoke 5 and the auxiliary magnetic pole piece 9. |
