The hand lever device on operation creates a forwardly directed tractive force on the brake pedal arm (41) by means of a wire regulator of the type with a wire conducted in casing. The device is so developed that an adequate braking force, approximately as great as that produced by the driver with his or her foot, is achieved. The necessary forwardly directed tractive force from the wire regulator on the brake pedal (4) is created by changeover of a downwardly/backwardly directed tractive force in that the wire end (71) which draws in the brake pedal (4) is fed via the vehicle rear side floor in a U-shaped arc over to the passenger side where a manoeuvring lever arrangement is fastened to the front seat passenger seat or beam.
