PURPOSE:To improve the degassing efficiency of a vacuum circulation type degassing apparatus by providing an elliptical cross-section to circulation holes in the restricted area of the bottom of the degassing vessel to increase the amount of molten metal to be circulated. CONSTITUTION:When molten metal in a ladle is sucked by evacuating a degassing vessel 1, it moves upward in a suction pipe 2 by bubbling through a circulating gas blowing pipe 5 and flows out of a descending pipe 3. The diameter of each of the pipes 2, 3 in the direction X is restricted by the shell and refractories. By making the diameter large in the direction Y in which restriction is not severe, an elliptical cross-section 8 is provided to increase the amount of molten metal to be circulated. The degassing efficiency is considerably improved by increasing the amount. |
