PURPOSE:A flame-retarding and radiation-resistance imparting agent which imparts flame retardancy and radiation resistance to a combustible resin, comprising a specific halogenated acenaphthylene polymer. CONSTITUTION:A new halogenated acenaphthylene polymer represented by the formula, wherein X is Cl or Br; n and n' are each 2-6; R is a C1-4 alkyl, alkoxy or alkyl ester; m and m' are each 0-4; n(or n')+m(or m')<=6; when m and m'>= 2, R's are same or different; k, l>=0; k 0; K>=1, k+l>=2; and N>=2-30. Substitution of a degree of n=2 is necessary because substitution of a degree of n=1 in each of the acenaphthylene units gives an unsatisfactory flame-retarding effect. Polymers of the degree of substitution (n) exceeding 4 have a problem of synthesis, whereas it is necessary not to use polymers with an alkyl group of a chain length longer than the limit because such polymers reduce flame retardancy and radiation resistance and because voids tend to be formed in the composition. |
