The invention contains an improvement in hard-shelled cases, in particular spectacle cases, which have a case-shell edge reinforcement in the form of a profiled strip. In the case of known hard-shelled cases part of the circumference of the lid-shell edge is bordered by a profiled strip which is U-shaped in cross-section and primarily serves aesthetic purposes but also partly serves to visually mark the lid-shell edge as compared to the trough-shell edge and thus to facilitate opening the case. The strength and rigidity of the known cases is determined by appropriate selection of material and constructional design of the lid and trough shell. According to the invention, the edges of both case shells (I, II) are each equipped with profiled strips (assembly frame 2) which enclose the entire shell circumference, are produced from a strong, rigid material which ensures adequate torsional rigidity, in particular metal or hard plastic, and on which both the closure elements (2a) and also the hinge elements (2b) of the case are fastened. By this means, it is possible, on the one hand, while substantially saving case-shell material nevertheless to attain the same case strength and rigidity as hitherto and, on the other hand, while providing only a few basic types of assembly frames to be able to prepare a virtually unlimited multiplicity of case types in terms of construction and appearance. <IMAGE>
