A vertical blind or similar hanging is described, with slats which, hanging on pivot pins (3), are guided in a guide rail by means of running carriages (4) and are pivotable about their vertical longitudinal axis (8) by means of a pull cord (6), the pull cord being connected in a region running approximately parallel to the support rail (1) transversely to the plane of the closed hanging at a distance from the vertical longitudinal axis of the slat. The pull cord is in this embodiment fastened on a pivot arm (10) mounted rotatably on the pivot pin (3), there being arranged between the pivot arm and the pivot pin (3) of the slat a transmission gearing (12, 13, 14) which transmits the pivot movement with a transmission factor of at least >>2<< into a pivot movement of the slat (1) comprising at most approximately 180 degrees (Figure 3). <IMAGE>
