The apparatus as a whole functions as follows: The apparatus consists of a pressure-transmitter and a pressure-transducer system, each system being equipped with 2 plungers which are connected in suspension and which can be moved in counterstroke. When one of the plungers of the pressure transmitter is in its downward stroke, one of the plungers of the pressure transducer is likewise in its downward stroke via a rope connection. An air-volume displacement without pressure variation is carried out under the individual pairs of plungers via the air-equalising pipe of the pressure transmitter and via the air-equalising pipe of the pressure transducer. The plungers located in their downward stroke are increasingly loaded, with an increasing water depth, with the hydrostatic pressure of the standing water. This operation of buoyancy reduction is to be equated with the depth variation of the plungers. Because the air pressure under the plungers is maintained unchanged, the water level of the sealing water between the plungers and the displacement bodies remains invariable in its height level. The regularity of this operation is assured. A gradient in the system can be incorporated by means of a time-offset cycle of movement of the pressure transmitter and of the pressure transducer.
