Process and device for recording a digital signal on a recording support (4) in particular a signal to be recorded in the compact disc data format. In this process an engraving point or a stylus (2) is pressed, essentially purely under the effect of its own weight, against the recording support (4) and describes a trajectory which, during the engraving of a hollow or above and between two hollows, is located at or above the non-deformed surface of the recording support (4), whereby the common position of the centres of gravity of the engraving point (2) and the adjusting element (1) rigidly fixed thereto remains essentially stable.
